Junior CFD Engineer Intern (Paid, PPO Opportunity)
Job ID: HE0032- Junior CFD Engineer (Paid Internship)
Description: We are seeking a Junior CFD Engineer Intern with strong fundamentals in fluid dynamics and hands on exposure to ANSYS Fluent or CFX. This role is focused on developing high quality meshing, robust solver setup, and a strong physical understanding of flow behaviour in complex engineering geometries. A strong ability and motivation for self learning is a core prerequisite for this role. Interns are expected to actively upskill, explore documentation, validate assumptions, and continuously improve simulation quality through independent study and iteration. The internship is designed to provide practical, real world CFD experience and a clear pathway to a full time role via PPO for strong performers. Exposure to electrochemical or electrolysis systems is a plus, and interest in multiphase flow modelling will be an added advantage
Responsibilities:
- Import, clean, and prepare CAD geometries for CFD analysis
- Convert CAD models into CFD‑ready meshes using ANSYS Meshing, Fluent Meshing, or ICEM CFD
- Generate structured, unstructured, and hybrid meshes for complex flow domains
- Apply boundary layer inflation, local refinement, and mesh adaptation techniques
- Evaluate mesh quality (skewness, orthogonality, aspect ratio) and assist in mesh independence studies
- Set up and run CFD simulations (laminar and turbulent) using ANSYS Fluent or CFX
- Assist in selecting numerical schemes and monitoring solver convergence and stability
- Analyze simulation results to understand flow distribution, pressure drop, and transport behaviour
- Proactively research models, methods, and best practices to improve simulation fidelity
- Work with design and engineering teams to translate CFD insights into design improvements
- Prepare clear technical documentation and reports, detailing simulation setup, assumptions, results, and learnings
Required Qualification:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree completed in Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering disciplines
- Academic projects, internships, or hands‑on exposure using ANSYS Fluent or CFX
Strong fundamentals in fluid mechanics and transport phenomena - Basic understanding of CFD workflows: meshing, solver setup, and post‑processing
- High self‑learning ability – comfort with reading technical documentation, research papers, tutorials, and solver manuals independently
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, validate results, and continuously improve simulation quality through iteration
Preferred Qualification:
- Introductory understanding or academic exposure to multiphase / two‑phase flow models (VOF, Euler–Euler, mixture)
- Familiarity with multiphysics simulations involving flow, heat transfer, or species transport
- Exposure to Python, MATLAB, or Fluent journal files for automation or post‑processing
- Interest in applying CFD to electrochemical or electrolyser systems
What You’ll Gain
- Paid, hands‑on CFD experience on real engineering problems
- Mentorship from experienced CFD and engineering professionals
- Deep exposure to meshing quality, solver setup, and physical interpretation
- Opportunity to work on electrolysis / electrochemical system simulations
- Clear ownership of simulations with room for independent learning and technical growth
- Pre Placement Offer (PPO) for high‑performing interns
